The event kicks off with a keynote on Monday, June 6th.
Apple usually uses a developer keyword, usually on the first day of a conference. Conferences like WWDC target developers who design apps for popular Apple products like the iPhone and Mac. However, the annual Developers Conference is used to peek at the new software for the iPhone, Mac, Apple Watch, and iPad. This means consumers should expect to get an early look at iOS 16, iPadOS 16, WatchOS 9, and a new version of macOS. The program announced at WWDC in June usually gets a release date in the fall, around the same time Apple releases new iPhone and Apple Watch models.
If you look at the pattern developed during past WWDC conferences, Cupertino likes to throw in numbers to prove that its App Store is the most attractive platform for developers. Last year, Apple said it had paid $230 billion to developers to use the App Store since 2008. The company also revealed that its App Store receives more than 600 million visitors each week in 175 countries. The big announcement from Apple during WWDC last year was the launch of Universal Control, a feature that allows users to use the same mouse and keyboard across a Mac or iPad. Besides the announcement of iOS 16 and macOS 13, industry experts are suggesting that Apple announces a new operating system called homeOS. Although WWDC is a software-focused event, Apple in the past has used the Developer Conference to showcase new hardware. An important announcement of the hardware expected at WWDC 2022 is the introduction of the long-rumored Mixed Reality (MR) headset. according to BloombergA large team, called the Technology Development Group, is said to be working on the headset. Although Apple has never publicly confirmed the existence of the headset, analysts and tech insiders believe that such a device would give Apple a chance to enter a new product category. The headset is said to offer the best of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) on a single device. Some reports say it could cost up to $2000, which is much higher compared to the $299 Meta Quest VR headset. Apple’s mixed reality headset set the tone for an industry that has yet to see a successful extended reality experience (XR) device, which many call a gateway to the metaverse.
